Biochemistry is a career that has the fameus of having
a stranger study programme, this is an opinion very common between the
Pharmaceutics and the Biochemisters, Biochemistry has the worst study programme
of all the campus, and the worst is this study plan is new, it was made in 2016
and it is impossible changing it in the short term.
I will explain why addressing the curriculum, for
example, in the first semester we have Calculus Introduction, General Chemistry
1, Mechanics and Scientific reasoning and communication, one day I talked with
Jorge Reyes, Mechanic's Boss Teacher, and he told me that before 2016 (with the
old study programme) Mechanics was a second-semester subject and that shocked
me because, in my life, I would never thought that (also considering that in
schools we don´t use much Math to do the exercises, just formulas and more
formulas) then I saw the Study Programme of some Facultad de Ciencias (de la
Universidad de Chile) careers and I discovered that all the careers have
Mechanics after passing Calculus Introduction, and Jorge Reyes Also told me
that the best way to understand Physics (which includes Mechanics and
Electromagnetism) is knowing the Calculus used by Newton to discovered it
(which includes, Functions, Trigonometry Limits, Derivatives, Graphics, Vectors
and Integrals), in Calculus introduction we only see Functions, Trigonometry
and Limits, but those math tools are very usefull and having Mechanics after
Calculus Introduction people could understand much better the Physics, so this
must be corrected in the study programe of ALL careers (because subjects from
first semester to fourth semester are common for the 4 careers of the Faculty)
Also mechanics in this Faculty we could not
learnthe Firs unit (Cinematic) eith trigonomy becouse Trigonomy is the third
unit of calculus introduction and in school, student majority dont learn
trigonomy (even thought it is not the same the trigonometry of school and the
trigonomentry of calculus introductio) in school, so it is hard for student
when in the second unit (dynamicd) they see exercises with trigonometry and the
don`t know well how to solve because they did´t see trigonometry at school.
about the use of Technology, something that I liked a lot in Calculus
Introduction, Mechanics and ELctromagentism is the fact that we learned some
Excel Tools and I think that Excel is a very important tool to do everything in
Science, so I think that the course of Computacion Basic and Advanced must have
it all the careers (Basic Computation is an elective for first-year student and
Advanced Computation is only Obligatory for Food Engineering students and has
Estaditics of requisite)
and that is all my opinion about this topic...
